Have you been making the perfect garment, with the perfect yarn?! Does it now need the perfect heirloom button?!
Because you'll be handwashing that gorgeous piece, you can get away with having gemset sterling buttons. Made from sturdy recycled sterling silver, the idea for these began as a custom commission for one of my delightful regulars, and has now become a regular line.
I'll use any gemstone I can get for you, but there are some (such as opal) that I wouldn't recommend you use, just because they'll be a little more delicate on a garment that's likely to have more knocking against it than a ring might.
Samples shown are a set of nine, 12mm set with 4mm lapis lazuli , grouped into 3 different patterns - Gilly-Glimmer, Sunburst and Sprout. Additional options are also Daisy or indeed any of the stamps I have displayed in the HookerRing listings. I could even stamp text if you want - message me to discuss what you'd like if that's the case.
Priced for an individual button, set of 3 or 5.
Choose your finish from the options detailed -
A Daisy - example has a blue lapis lazuli
B Sprout - example has a pink rose quartz
C Gilly-Glimmer - example has a purple amethyst
D Sunburst - example has a pink rose quartz
E is a 15mm button, with a 5mm sunstone. Contact me for current pricing for this size
And then pick your gemstone. See my note blow for which stones are included within the listing price, and which will incur a surcharge. Do message me to check if I've confused you ;-)
There's some work in making these - I drill a pilot hole in the centre of the disc, sand and polish before applying the textures and dishing, then solder an eye pin using 1mm thick sterling wire, before soldering the bezel cup setting to the centre of the dished button. Finally I set the gemstone of your choice and give the button a polish
If you have a special stone you want, or you'd like me to price you up a larger size and it's not listed - message me - I might not have it, but I can see if I can order it for you. I also have most of the stones in stock, but may need to order yours if I don't.
Most stones vary in price depending on size, and also on the actual stone, so I have priced up the most commonly asked for stone in the 4mm size.
Stones that are included within this listing price include: Agate, Amethyst, Amber, Aventurine, Bloodstone, Chalcedony, Citrine, Carnelian, Garnet, Hematite, Iolite, Jasper, Jade (some), Labradorite, Moonstone, Onyx, Peridot, Prehnite, Pyrite, Quartz, Spinel, Topaz, Zircon.
If you have a yarn or fabric you wish me to match you can send me a message and photos (see FAQs) and I'll be able to suggest the stone(s) to use
Some stones will incur an additional charge to reflect the increased cost of the stone for example - diamond - as at September 2025, a 3mm white diamond would add approximately £100 to the price per piece but these are very variable
Aquamarine; Golden Rutilated Quartz; Turquoise (quite a soft stone, probably not ideal for a button!); Green Tourmaline all cost an extra £5 per stone
Pink Tourmaline, Emerald, Opal (also not recommended for buttons!) all add an extra £10
And Kyanite, Diamond, Tsavorite Garnet, Sapphires, vary from an extra £15
Sterling silver button with gemstone at it's centre
Sterling Silver will eventually oxidise or tarnish. It's a natural process that can be slowed down by regular wear and by keeping unworn items away from the atmosphere. If you leave your jewellery out on display, this oxidisation will be faster. You can polish up your items, with a soft cloth, some silver polish, or a buffing cloth such as Town Talk, which is readily available from any high street jewellers in the UK
Fine silver is 99.9% silver, and because of this the tarnish rate is much, much slower. Again, a buff should do the job for polishing it back up. If I have patinated your silver already, be gentle when buffing!
Each piece should stand up to regular wear, but , as with all jewellery, please remove it before washing, using chemicals or applying perfume etc
Apply body lotion and perfume a few minutes before putting on your jewellery to help slow down tarnish
The sterling silver used in these items was sold to me by my bullion dealer ass certified recycled.
he gemstones I use have been sold to me by reputable dealers as untreated (unless stated specifically in the listing). They are a natural, organic creation from the earth and each one will be slightly different. You can see examples of this on my Facebook page.
I select the stones that I think go together best for each project, hence my comments that each item is individual.
